Documents (KID)

Since April 2020, all Agency Workers should be given a Key Information Document (KID) by their agency, providing essential details about how they will be paid, before they agree to assignment terms. It should include information about how the agency worker will be paid, who by, how they will be engaged and how their pay will be calculated.

You will need to be able to provide a KID for each different method of engagement you may have in place, including your own Agency PAYE if you run one, Umbrella, CIS or PSC.

As part of our initial onboarding discussions with agencies when we agree how we’ll work together, Payshield will provide you with Key Information Documents to cover both Umbrella engagement and CIS as the two methods of engagement we offer. These will use the template suggested by UK Government in the guidance above.

A KID doesn’t have to exactly reflect the exact rate for each assignment. They must show the minimum the agency worker can expect to receive, and descriptions of all deductions made to a worker’s pay. They should also include an example statement to show how the listed deductions will be made to an assignment rate, using real numbers to demonstrate the deductions in a realistic way.

You don’t necessarily have to re-issue a KID for each separate assignment; they only need to be updated as and when any of the details change. For example, if the Umbrella company margin was to change.
